Young Champions of the Earth

2019 Young Champions of the Earth competition (seed funding)

Young people are invited to apply for the 2019 Young Champions of the Earth competition and get seed funding to implement their respective ideas.

Young Champions of the Earth is a competition by UN Environment. It is seeking out young individuals who believe that they can change the world. The initiative will identify and reward 7 individuals from each of the global regions. You could represent Africa, or know someone who might. Let them know about this.

Each of these winners will receive sh.1.5 million ($15k) in funding. They will also get a further sh.900,000 ($9k) to share the journey of their progress, on their project, with the world. UN Environment will fund attendance to a high-level UN meeting.

Not to mention, 2019 Young Champions of the Earth will represent a networking, training and mentorship opportunity. In fact, 50 of the most promising applicants will be granted privileged access to the program’s expert mentorship. Here, they will pick skills on communication, business development, planning and financial management.

Eligibility
  • Be aged between 18 and 30 years, on 31st December 2019
  • Show at least 6 months of prior commitment to your idea/project

Selection will be based on how much positive impact the projects have, or could have, on the environment and society. Financial viability will be another consideration. It will be important for candidates to demonstrate that they are curious, courageous and “colorful.” And they have received endorsement, through a referee recommendation.

Deadline for 2019 Young Champions of the Earth competition open application is 31st March, 2019. Visit the Official Webpage to learn more and apply.
