Absa Bank Kenya Facilitates Kenyan SMEs’ Expansion into European Markets with Business Delegation to Estonia and Finland

In a strategic move to empower Kenyan entrepreneurs, Absa Bank Kenya has flagged off a delegation of Absa Business Club members for an exclusive business tour to Estonia and Finland. This initiative, organized in collaboration with Golden Connections International, aims to foster trade and investment partnerships between Kenyan SMEs and their European counterparts.

Scheduled to take place from February 15 to 25, 2025, the delegation includes entrepreneurs from key sectors such as ICT, manufacturing, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and fintech. The trip offers a unique opportunity for business networking, knowledge exchange, and exposure to global markets, ultimately enhancing business growth, brand positioning, and international expansion.

Strengthening Global Business Networks

Speaking at the flag-off event, Elizabeth Wasunna, Business Banking Director at Absa Bank Kenya, emphasized the importance of empowering SMEs beyond financial support.

“We recognize the vital role SMEs play in driving Kenya’s economy, contributing up to 40% of our GDP. To succeed, businesses need more than just financing—they require mentorship, market access, and strong international networks. Through this partnership with the Estonian Embassy and Golden Connections International, we are proud to facilitate the travel of 36 SMEs to Estonia and Finland. This initiative reaffirms our commitment to equipping SMEs with the right tools to compete on a global scale.”

As part of its SME growth agenda, Absa Bank Kenya offers financial solutions, capacity-building programs, and advisory services to help businesses scale and thrive in competitive markets.

Unlocking Trade and Investment Opportunities

Joel Karubiu, Country Representative and Export Adviser for Enterprise Estonia, underscored the significance of international collaborations in unlocking business potential and expanding economic opportunities.

“This visit is a continuation of the commitment made during the Estonian Head of State’s visit to Kenya in 2021 to strengthen trade relations between the two nations. Estonia, with its advanced digital economy and business-friendly environment, offers immense opportunities for Kenyan businesses looking to penetrate European markets.”

As a recognized global leader in digital innovation, e-governance, and entrepreneurship, Estonia serves as an ideal gateway for Kenyan businesses seeking expansion into Europe. The trip will provide SMEs with valuable insights into Estonia’s thriving tech ecosystem, business-friendly policies, and investment opportunities.
