APPLY: Africa Innovates for the SDGs 2018 grant

Apply for the newly launched Africa Innovates for the SDGs award by Ghana President, Nana Akufo-Addo. Successful applicants will receive a grant.

Africa Innovates for the SDGs will reward social innovators with the best ideas and initiatives linked to any of the 17 UN SDGs. The award was launched by Ghana President, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This is in his role as Co-Chair of the Group of Eminent Advocates for the SDGs. The work they do is to support the UN Secretary-General to achieve them by 2030. Nana Akufo-Addo sees this as yet another opportunity to recognize great African minds.

β€œOn our continent today, great African minds have been solving problems in their communities and this Award offers yet another platform to unearth, give recognition and the opportunity to take their innovations to scale for the benefit of the continent and to enhance prospects for achieving the SDG.”

INTERVIEW: “WHY I BECAME A SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR”

Africa Innovates for the SDGs award has an overall goal to support acceleration of development and improvement of lives. Which is there will be a preference for ideas and initiatives with potential to scale and impact a large number of people. These ideas and initiatives should be unique or innovative. It is also important that they are either tested or proven to be impactful.

The award is open to citizens of any African country, or those who have been residents for a minimum of 3 years. Africa Innovates for the SDGs award is open only to those who are 18 years and older.

Five social innovators will be chosen to receive cash reward and regional exposure. These successful applicants will also get funding to develop and scale innovations to become financially sustainable and as impactful as can be.
