Apply: UN Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals

Applications are welcomed for the 2017 class of the United Nations’s (UN) Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 resolutions passed by the UN, in 2015, to transform the World by 2030. In 2016, the UN launched an initiative to involve young people in the realization of these goals.

What this initiative, Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals, is seeking are 17 young people from across the globe who are involved in initiatives to achieve the Global Goals. Initiatives from any sphere of life are welcomed as long as the applicants is aged between 18 and 30 years as at 31st December, 2017.

These young leaders will come together to engage other young people in achieving the goals, with the following objectives in mind:

  1. Advocate for the goals in the most accessible and relatable ways to young people
  2. Promote innovative ways of engaging others in realization of the goals
  3. Contribute to a brain trust of young leaders assisting the UN and its partners in realizing the SDG goals

At the end of their program, the 17 successful applicants of 2017’s class of Young Leader for the Sustainable Development Goals will join a network of alumni to pave way for a new cohort.

Consideration of applicants will be made on the following basis:

  • Demonstrated achievements in promoting and advocating for sustainable development
  • Influence within their respective fields and reputation for inclusive and innovative leadership
  • Ability to command, influence and inspire audiences
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to the SDGs and core values of the UN
