Digital Lab Africa 2017 for African artists (prize money + incubation)

Digital Lab Africa is an initiative for African artists, students, entrepreneurs, producers, developers, SMEs, startups, etc. involved in multimedia creation.

The initiative is organized by the French Embassy and the French Institute of South Africa in conjunction with TRACE, Lagardere Studios, DISCOP and other companies. There is a Sh.360,000 prize money and incubation in France for successful applicants.

Digital Lab Africa is looking for innovative early stage projects in need of financial support. Winners will receive a €3,000 prize and enjoy incubation in France between May and December 2018. Innovation can be based on either narration, content or technology used. The five areas focused on are:

  1. Digital music
  2. Web creation
  3. Virtual reality
  4. Video game
  5. Animation

Professionals and non-professionals in multimedia industry or creation are welcomed to apply as long as they are either citizens or residents of a Sub-Saharan country. Digital Lab Africa is welcoming applicants from 49 countries, including Kenya.

Submissions should target an international audience and must be made in either English or French. Here is what is needed for a successful application:

  • Presentation dossier of 5-8 pages. Will have: visual/graphical component, technology tools, scenario, target audience, budget requirements, financial plan, production schedule
  • Pilot, demo or a pre-release of project (if available)
  • Biography of the principle project or description of the company
  • Photo of applicant (.jpeg)
