How many books do you read in a year? Bill Gates reads 50. While it’s not about reading more books than Bill Gates, reading is fundamental to your growth and development as a professional.
For one, it mentally sharpens you and informs you about the most important events and trends happening in your industry. It also gives you something to talk about with other like-minded professionals.
Despite the obvious benefits, many of us simply can’t find the time in our schedule to read. The problem is not that you’re too busy; you just don’t make reading a priority. Industry titans like Gates don’t have a lot of time on their hands either, yet they still find the time to read more than the rest of us.
How do they do it? They’ve learned how to take advantage of the gaps in their day, and you can do the same. If you work a nine to five, then there’s time for reading, be it on your commute or (like many of us) during your lunch break.
It might seem like a tough sacrifice, but your lunch break is prime time to consume some literature. And, because many business books really aren’t that long, you can knock them out in a week or two (assuming you read for one hour). So, what exactly should you be reading?
Zachary highlights the best books available that helped successful people advance their careers and grow as professionals in the infographic below:
