M-PESA Foundation Invests KES 35 Million in Kianyingi Primary School Renovation

Learners at Kianyingi Primary School in Murang’a County are set to benefit from a KES 35 million school renovation project funded by the M-PESA Foundation.

The project will include the construction of 12 new classrooms, covering the ECDE unit to Grade 9, to ease congestion and accommodate the school’s growing student population. Additionally, new ablution blocks for boys, girls, and staff will be built to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities.

“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for societal development. At M-PESA Foundation, we are committed to addressing barriers to quality education. Through partnerships with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders, we continue to invest in school renovation projects that focus on the most underserved areas under our Citizens of the Future programme,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of Safaricom Foundation.

Beyond classrooms, the project will also include a fully equipped ICT lab to enhance digital literacy and a modern science laboratory for hands-on learning and practical lessons.

M-PESA Foundation has undertaken similar projects in Karimamwaro Primary School, Makuyu Boys Secondary School, and Thukumu Nursery within Murang’a County. It is also supporting ongoing school renovations in Homa Bay, Siaya, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, and Kisii counties.

The initiative falls under the Citizens of the Future programme, which aims to positively impact three million learners over the next three years.
