Starting a business is frightening. There are many things to think about and get right before setting a business off the ground. Just the thought of the workload is enough to make you want to postpone the whole idea.

So how do you overcome this fear of starting your own business? I have some ways that will help you with gaining confidence and that will boost you the right way.

Running your idea by other people who will give you honest reviews and opinions is one thing you need that will give you a confidence boost. Why? Getting a thumbs up on your business idea from people you trust allows you to have the assurance that your business is feasible and that it has a chance of working out. It’s like taking a car out for a test drive; if it performs well, you will have no doubt driving it in public.

Mentors give us the courage to dive into the deep end because if they did it and succeeded, then surely, we too will succeed. Go out and look for someone who will take you under his or her wing. Learn from them. Feed from them. Be inspired. There is nothing new under the sun. You will get the necessary tools and materials you require to fly on your own. Once in a while, keep tabs on your mentors to track progress, share notes or just have a drink and chill out. Some of the best discussions happen in informal settings.

You might have fear of starting your own business because you lack some skills, be they interpersonal or business skills. If this is your fear, you might consider having a business partner or cofounder who specializes in the areas where you lack skills in. Such partnerships place the business in a strategic place because with many skilled people involved, you divide and conquer.

Not having a niche market of consumers will most likely give you fear of starting your business. When that niche market is narrowed down, you can be at ease because you will have self confidence in your product or service. When supply has a targeted demand, it is a win-win situation.
