The Climate Information Prize awards cash prizes to entrepreneurs and innovators who come up with new solutions that use climate information in some way to support vulnerable individuals, households and communities in Kenya.

Their current live prize, the Tekeleza Prize is open for application and will award up to $200,000.

The Tekeleza Prize will be awarded to innovators that have helped their target community by using climate information to build their resilience to climate change. The competition opened on the 6th April 2016, the deadline for registration is 28th February 2017 and the deadline for submission of the final report demonstrating results achieved is July 2018. The winners will receive cash prizes, with a maximum individual award of US$200,000 (sh.20,600,000)

To win the top prize:

  • you will need to reach a certain number of beneficiaries (to be agreed upon)
  • demonstrate sustainability
  • show evidence and examples of how your initiative has benefited your vulnerable target community (in particular marginalized groups such as youth, elderly and disabled).

Winning applicants will submit a report demonstrating impact from their initiative. This will be judged by an independent judging panel and verified by an independent verification team. The maximum cash prizes are:

1st place – US$200,000 (sh.20,600,000)

2nd place – US$100,000 (sh.10,300,000)

3rd place – US$50,000 (sh.5,150,000)

Runners up x 3 – US$25,000 (sh.2,575,000)
