Shujaa and Lionesses to Benefit from Comprehensive Support Package Under M-PESA Sponsorship

Safaricom  has announced a monumental KSh. 100 million, two-year partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to sponsor Kenya’s National Sevens Rugby Teams, Shujaa and Lionesses.

The sponsorship, facilitated under M-PESA, will cover monthly allowances for players and officials, medical insurance, airtime allowances, and financial literacy programs. The initiative aims to enhance the teams’ preparation and welfare as they compete on the global stage.

Shujaa is gearing up for the 2024/25 HSBC World Rugby 7s Series, starting November 30 in Dubai, while the Lionesses will make their comeback in January 2025 during the World Cup Challenger Seven Series.

Empowering Kenyan Rugby Teams

Speaking at the announcement, Safaricom’s Chief Financial Services Officer, Esther Waititu, highlighted the company’s commitment to Kenyan sports:
