YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa is looking for young men and women, ready to embrace leadership and work hard to transform their countries, for its 2016 leadership program in Nairobi, Kenya.
YALI stands for Young African Leaders Initiative. It was launched by United States President, Barack Obama with the aim of grooming the next generation of African leaders. The Initiative has 3 Regional Leadership Centres; Nairobi being the HQ of East Africa’s Centre.
The East Africa leadership program is based on meritocracy and open to citizens of Eastern African countries. To be precise, here are the countries eligible; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Djibouti. The list also includes, DR Congo, Congo and Central African Republic.
Be between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of application submission
Be a citizen of the aforementioned countries
Should not be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
Eligible to receive necessary visa to Kenya
Proficient in English
Applicants will be evaluated based on their demonstration of leadership and engagement in community services or mentorship. YALI will also consider demonstration of knowledge, interest and professional experience in the sector selected. As an applicant you should show commitment to applying leadership skills from the program.
