YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa fellowship (cohort 31 and 32)

YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa is inviting young people in the region to apply to be part of cohort 31 and 32 fellowship program.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a program invested in developing strong leadership in Africa. It was launched by former President of the United States, Barack Obama. YALI achieves its objective through 3 models. YALI Regional Leadership Center fellowship is one of them.

There are 4 such centers in the continent. YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa is serves 14 countries and is located at Kenyatta University. It is supported by a growing number of partners.

The fellowship involves a residential training based on experiential and interactive learning. There is a focus on the individual, teams, innovation and communication, among other relevant aspects.

YALI Regional Leadership Center fellowship imparts the skills through 3 tracks of study. Business and Entrepreneurship benefits entrepreneurs who look to take leadership roles in the private sector. Civic Leadership is about engagement to public service from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations or volunteerism. The third, Public Management, is tailored for those aspiring to work in any level of government or regional and international organizations emphasizing public service.

Eligibility
  • You should be 18-35 years old at time of applying
  • You should be proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking English
  • You should be a citizen of one of Kenya, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania
  • You should be eligible to receive any necessary visa to Kenya

YALI Regional Leadership Center fellowship alumni are requested to give back. This helps perpetuate skills, tools from the center to benefit many more.

How do fellows give back? There is volunteer engagement, which comes about in the form of coordinating activities and hosting trainings, among other ways. Transformation fund aids alumni with financial and non-financial resources to provide for meaningful activities in communities, such as trainings.
