How to Nominate a School for the Citizens of the Future Funding

Safaricom, through M-PESA Foundation has launched the comprehensive Citizens of the future initiative backed by a Ksh 30 billion investment. The company intends to revolutionize education and training outcomes across Kenya over the next five years.

Kenyans are invited to nominate deserving public learning institutions to benefit from this major upgrade program.

Nomination Steps:

  1. Visit the official portal: citizenofthefuture.org and complete the written nomination form
  2. Submit your nomination by 23:59 hrs, 31 December 2025

What the Programme Supports:
The scheme focuses on upgrading schools into “Schools of the Future” through:

  • Primary Infrastructure: Classrooms, ICT hubs, science laboratories, admin blocks, libraries, perimeter fences/gates.
  • Support Facilities: Multipurpose halls, dormitories, kitchens, WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) facilities

Eligibility & Selection:

  • Nominated schools must demonstrate genuine need, show readiness for ICT integration, and have strong community and stakeholder commitment; including provisions for learners with special needs.
  • After nominations close, the M-PESA Foundation will conduct a three-phase review: eligibility check, technical appraisal, and site visits; expected to take 30–60 days. Selected schools will be notified within 90 days after the nomination window closes.
